Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
